For two years she was the spokeswoman of CDU Germany under the chair of the former Chancellor Helmut Kohl after having headed the press and public relations office of the state chancellery of Hesse from 1988 to 1991. She gained EU experience with her time as Deputy Speaker of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture from 1987 until 1988, after having been in the same position for one year in the newly founded Federal Ministry of the Environment having set up the press department.
Her work in political PR started in 1983 in Bonn as referee and senior press officer of the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government. During this time she also gained half a year of practical experience in the political editorial office of a radio station.
After her study of law at the Ruhr-University in Bochum she started her career working for two years as scientific assistant of Professor Paul Mikat, who held a chair of German history of law and of law affecting the state and the church at the Ruhr-University Bochum.
