Catherine Stewart is Chairman of Interel European Affairs and Group Practice Leader, Public Affairs
Catherine Stewart is a leading EU public affairs professional in Brussels with over 25 years experience of managing campaigns to influence the direction of European policy and legislation. She founded and ran one of the most highly-respected EU public affairs consultancies in Brussels, Cabinet Stewart, which merged with Interel’s European Affairs practice in 2008.

With the growing globalisation of public affairs, Catherine anticipated the demand for on-the-spot advice on EU affairs to US corporations and trade associations when she opened an office in Washington D.C in September 2001 which is now Interel Consulting Inc.
As Chairman of Interel European Affairs her vision of effective public affairs is to provide experienced and intellectually–driven advice, intelligence and lobbying services on EU legislative and regulatory issues to valued clients. Catherine provides strategic advice on EU policy issues and practices to a broad range of clients in sectors as diverse as mining, automobile, media and financial services. Her extensive experience of EU affairs and her network of contacts at the highest level in Brussels has led several high-profile multinationals to seek her advice on the effective restructuring of their global public affairs activities and to entrust her with confidential and targeted opinion research about their companies amongst senior and influential policy makers.
As Group Practice Leader of Public Affairs in the Interel Group, Catherine is broadening the Interel International Network of Affiliates to provide clients with a team of expert advisors at national and European and international level.
Committed to changing the public perception of the public affairs/lobbying business, Catherine is a founder member and Vice-President of the Society of European Affairs Professionals (SEAP) and is closely involved in the debate on an EU interest representation Register. She is also Council Member of the British Chamber of Commerce in Belgium, Executive Board member of the Belgo-British Conference, a Trustee of the British School of Brussels and a member of the Cambridge University Society of Belgium.
Catherine is an economist with a BA (Honours) degree from Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, England. She worked for the Confederation of British Industry in London and Brussels, after which she moved into corporate-orientated EU lobbying activities with a leading UK lobby firm in London. In 1990 she founded her own company Cabinet Stewart which merged with Interel in 2008. She speaks English and French.
